Eric Zorn of the Chicago Tribune has the scoop:
Former Illinois Republican Congressman (1960-1980) and 1980 independent presidential candidate John B. Anderson has endorsed Senator Barack Obama. That's better than Lieberman endorsing McCain!
As the independent voter is at the center of the New Hampshire primary, John Anderson's endorsement is significant. Lots of older independent voters remember fondly their vote for John Anderson in 1980 (against Reagan and Carter) as a candidate with candor, eloquence and far-sighted progressive policies (like raising the gasoline tax by 50 cents a gallon and lowering the payroll tax by an equal amount). His similarities to another Congressman from Illinois are evident in this endorsement.
